Workshops
For most of my adult life, I have been preoccupied with the question: why is there so much violence and suffering in the world? This has led me to study various liberation frameworks from feminism and anti-racism to public health and class politics. But the more I learned about the way systems of oppression work, the more depressed I got. It's like I could feel the weight of the world's problems pressing down on me, squeezing the vitality from my soul until I was an empty husk of a person. Jaded and cynical, I shambled along from high to high, using drugs, alcohol and video games to numb the emptiness I felt deep inside.
When I finally took an honest look at the intersection of these systemic problems and my sphere of influence, I realized that my ability to contribute was closely linked to my own well being. So, several years ago, I set out on a healing journey. I studied numerous different frameworks for understanding mental health, interpersonal communication, and healing modalities, including: Nonviolent Communication, Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, Polyvagal Theory, Attachment Theory, and meditation.
And it worked! My baseline anxiety has decreased substantially, I’m gentler with myself, I sleep better at night, I feel more confident, I laugh more, I have more capacity to help others, and I feel more hopeful about the future.
Now I want to bring the skills and knowledge I gained on this journey to you through my workshops!
In this workshop, I provide an overview of the mechanics of Nonviolent Communication, explore the role the role of anger in meeting our needs, and give some guidance on what to do when you get stuck.
In this workshop, I delve into some of the nitty gritty I couldn't fit into my NVC 101 course including the dangers of rewards and praise, the joy of gratitude, and how to apologize in giraffe among other topics!
In this workshop, I explore how to turn our NVC skills inward and listen to our own feelings and needs. This workshop covers several other mental health modalities as well, including trauma healing, Internal Family Systems, and meditation.
In this workshop, I examine the intersection of social justice and Nonviolent Communication, outlining the importance of speaking giraffe within our social movements, and looking at how radical vulnerability leads to profound change.
It's important to me that the skills I teach are available to everyone, not just people with money, so all of my workshops are offered for free. If you enjoy my workshops and would like to help me continue to bring them to others though, I do accept donations!
